London Day 1: Kensington Gardens, Covent Garden, Picadilly, Oxford Street, Trafalgar Square, Soho

My birthday party was on Friday, and on Saturday I spent a big part of the day at Cit's, helping clean up (the house looked as if a herd of wild buffalo had galloped through it). The rest of the day I spent packing for my trip to London early Sunday morning.

The trip was fine. A bit long, because our train stopped in every little town it could find, but at least it was comfortable. And when we arrived, our hotel was fine, too, much better than what we'd expected, given the price we were paying for it (50 pounds per night for a triple room, so about 17 pounds per person.... really cheap, for London). The room was tiny, but perfectly clean and nice, with air conditioning and private bathroom. Plus, breakfast (included inthe price) was good and plentyful and we were very well situated, three blocks away from Kensington Park and a block from the nearest tube station. The hotel was the Royal Hyde Park, in case anyone's planning on travelling to London on a shoestring budget.

Arriving to London, at St. Pancras station. Even at that time (midday) it was already freezing. You'll see that I'm wearing my hat and gloves in practically every photo.

First was a walk in Kensington Park, while we killed some time until 2, so we could check in.

Lots of animals in the park... swans, ducks, geese and plenty of squirrels.

In Covent Garden, where we went to see if we could find tickets for the theatre. What we didn't consider was that it was Sunday, so there were no shows that day.

By then it was sunset (so close to the Winter Solstice, this was at about 4 in the afternoon) and we walked towards Trafalgar Square. Here you can see Nelson's column from a distance.

Y un poquito más cerca.

And a bit closer.

In the distance we could see Big Ben, all lit up (yeah, I know, Big Ben is only the bell, this is the Clock Tower. But you understand what I mean). The photo is a bit blurry, because I took it without flash or tripod, but I think it looks cool anyway *g*

De allí caminamos hacia Picadilly Circus.

From there we walked towards Picadilly Circus.

By the time we arrived we were freezing our asses off. And we were dressed really warmly.

From there, always freezing, we walked to Buckingham Palace. Why, I don't know. There wasn't much to see at that time of the evening.

Wow...bringing back lots of memories!

They've really done up St Pancras a lot since I was there. The outside was lovely but the inside was a bit dingy!
