From Edinburgh we flew to Dublin, the last stage of our trip. We arrived to our hostel quite early and then immediately went out walking. The hostal was very well-located, a couple of blocks from the Cathedrals and only slightly further away from the Temple Bar area, so we basically stayed in the neighbourhood ;-)

Christ Church. Dublin es una ciudad con dos catedrales medievales, esta (que es la catedral de Dublín) y St. Patrick (que es considerada la de toda Irlanda). Nosotros habíamos asumido que eran ambas católicas, así que nos sorprendimos al enterarnos de que son protestantes, ambas de la Iglesia de Irlanda.
Christ Church. Dublin is a city of two Medieval Cathedrals: this one (the Dublin Cathedral) and St. Patrick (considered the Cathedral for all Ireland). We'd assumed both were Catholic, so we were surprised to find out they are protestant, both of the Church of Ireland.

The oldest sections of the Cathedral date back from the times of the Vikings (who were in Dublin between the 9th and 11th centuries), but most of what we can see today is product of a huge restoration in the late 19th century. The money was donated by Henry Roe, a whiskey distiller, and it's said he did so in reaction to Benjamin Lee Guiness (of the famous brewery) funding the restoration of St. Patrick's.

I thought thsi was interesting: inside the Cathedral there's a memorial to one Samuel Auchmuty, who, among other military victories, captured Monte Video, in South America.

Este puente cubierto que se ve acá conecta la catedral con el antiguo Hall de Sínodos, donde actualmente está Dublinia, una exhibición ilustrando la historia de la ciudad.
This covered bridge you see here connects the Cathedral with the old Synod Hall, which houses Dublinia, an exhibition about the history of the city.
