I've already done a ton of posts of my second day in Portugal, so as you might imagine, we did quite a few things. The last places we visited were Cascais and Estoril, two coastal towns some 20 miles to the West of Lisbon.
De Estoril no tengo muchas fotos, porque nos fue imposible estacionar, así que sólo pude sacar algunas desde el auto. Igual dimos una buena vuelta, suficiente como para que me hiciera una idea del lugar. Me hizo acordar muchísimo a Punta del Este, especialmente el área de la Mansa por ahí por la Parada 3. Y en realidad es bastante como Punta, en el sentido de que es bien jet-setty. La ciudad se hizo conocida porque allí se fueron a refugiar muchos miembros de la realeza europea durante y luego de la segunda guerra mundial. Entre muchos otros, allí vivieron Umberto II de Italia, Juan de Borbón y Carol de Rumania.
I don't have many pictures of Estoril, as it was impossible to find a parking place. I could only snap a few from the car. Still, we did drive around for a while, enough for me to get a feel for the place. It reminded me a lot of Punta del Este, especially the area of the Mansa, around the Parada 3. And actually, it IS a bit like Punta, in the sense that it's quite jet-setty. The city became well-known because it was the refuge of many exiled members of European royalty during and after WW II. Those who lived there include Umberto II of Italy, Juan of Borbón and Carol of Romania, among many others.
No pudiendo parar en Estoril, seguimos para Cascais, que queda muy cerquita, también sobre la costa. Es también un balneario, pero un poquitito menos exclusivo que Estoril. Tiene todavía un aire del pueblito de pescadores que fue en su momento.
Not being able to stop at Estoril, we continued on to Cascais, very close by and also on the coast. It's also a beach resort, but slightly less exclusive than Estoril. It still feels a little bit like the fishing village it once was.
