Bright and early on Saturday we took the train to Edinburgh. Right after leaving our stuff at the hostel (not particularly cheap but clean, neat, modern and excellently located one block from the Royal Mile) we went for a walk and to visit the Castle.
En la Royal Mile, que es la calle principal de Edinburgo. Como su nombre lo indica, es aproximadamente una milla y va entre el Castillo de Edinburgo y el Palacio de Holyroodhouse. Gran parte de la calle es peatonal y de adoquines, llena de edificios históricos, así como tiendas de cosas turísticas. Es muy entretenido caminar por ella y explorar.
On the Royal Mile, which is the main Edinburgh thoroughfare. As its name indicates, it's approximately one mile long and it runs between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. A large part of the street is pedestrianised and cobbled, full of historical buildings as well as touristy shops. It's very entertaining to walk and explore it.

Acercándonos al Castillo. De acá no se ve bien, porque ya estamos bastante alto, pero van a ver en fotos más adelante que está sobre la llamada Castle Rock, y desde allí se domina toda la ciudad. La mayor parte de las estructuras que se ven hoy son del siglo XVI o más nuevas, pero todavía quedan algunas del siglo XII. La mayoría fueron destruidas durante un sitio a principios de los 1570s.
Approaching the Castle. From here you can't really see it, as we're already pretty high up, but you'll see in further pictures that it's situated on top of what's called Castle Rock, dominating the whole city. Most of the structures that can be seen today are from the 16th century or more recent, but there are still some from the 12th century. Most were destroyed during a siege in the early 1570s.

Apenas entramos, mientras explorábamos estas partes de más afuera, se puso bien oscuro y muy, muy frío. Lo más frío que pasamos en este viaje. Vean la diferencia en la luz en esta foto.
Soon after we came in, while we explored this outermost parts, the day got very dark and very, very cold. The coldest we experienced on this trip, actually. Notice the difference in the light in this photo.
No nevó, pero cayeron estas piedritas, tipo granizo. Esta foto es de la punta de una de mis trenzas.
It didn't snow, but there was some hail. This photo is of the tip of one of my pigtails.
Y mientras nosotros temblábamos de frío, a pesar de estar bien abrigados, los guías del castillo estaban tan tranquilos con sus kilts y sin abrigo.
And while we shook with the cold, even though we were all very warmly dressed, the guides of the castle were just standing there in their kilts and no coats.

En el Great Hall. Es del siglo XVI, pero fue redecorado en el siglo XIX, así que el estilo es la idea Victoriana de un estilo Medieval.

Acá es donde tenían a los prisioneros de guerra, muchas veces por años y años.
Estas fueron las áreas principales que visitamos adentro. Además entramos a la exposición donde están las joyas de la Corona Escocesa y la Piedra de Scone, pero allí no pudimos sacar fotos. Una lástima, porque son impresionantes, y la exposición previa, sobre historia escocesa, muy interesante y bien hecha.
Here is where they kept prisoners of war, sometimes for years and years.
These were the main areas that we visited on the inside. We also went to the building where the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Scone are shown, but we couldn't take photos there. A shame, as they were really impressive and the introductory exhibit about Scottish history was very interesting and well done.
